University of Lübeck PhD student

11 PhD Positions in Neuroscience

The University of Lübeck is recruiting highly motivated doctoral researchers for a structured three-year PhD programme within the newly established

DFG Research Training Group 1957 Adipocyte-Brain-Crosstalk.

The programme will start as of May 1st, 2014.

In an interdisciplinary research approach the Research Training Group GRK 1957 focuses on the effects of hormones derived from adipose tissue (adipokines) on CNS function and, in turn, the control of adipose tissue and body weight by the brain. Cellular and molecular techniques as well as animal models and clinical studies will be used to address emerging questions within this context.

The participating institutions at the University of Lübeck are:
- Department of Internal Medicine I
- Department of Neurology
- Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy
- Institute for Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology

Participants in the programme will be trained in molecular endocrinology and translational medicine of adipose tissue function. Besides their doctoral research projects, the PhD researchers will obtain additional qualifications through laboratory and soft-skill courses, lectures, seminars, and summer schools. A major feature of this programme is an internship of the doctoral researchers in the laboratory of international expert collaborators for up to three months. For more information on the research projects see www.grk1957.uni-luebeck.de.

11 PhD positions for doctoral researchers are offered. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13 65%).

Applications are welcome from candidates with an excellent graduation (Master or equivalent) in life sciences (e.g. biology, pharmacology, neurosciences, psychology) and an active interest in the indicated research field. The programme is taught in English which requires very good written and spoken English skills. Interested candidates should fill in the application form at www.grk1957.uni-luebeck.de. Deadline for applications is February 12th, 2014.

Suitable candidates will be invited to attend a recruitment day in Lübeck on March 5th, 2014 to give short presentations of their recent research project and interviews for final decisions.

The University of Lübeck is committed to support gender equality, women are explicitly encouraged to apply. Further information on the University of Lübeck can be found under www.uni-luebeck.de.
