Max Planck Florida Institute Postdoctoral Position

A postdoctoral position is available working in the laboratory of Hiroki Taniguchi Ph.D., a research group leader at the Max Planck Florida Institute (MPFI). The lab’s focus is on understanding neural circuit development and function of inhibitory interneuron subtypes (see below). We are looking for highly motivated individuals who will enjoy the process to achieve a unique science and have a strong ambition to create trends of neural circuit research in the future.

The MPFI in Jupiter, Florida is the first institute established by Germany’s prestigious Max Planck Society outside of Europe. The research focus of the MPFI is structure and function of neural circuits, the complex synaptic networks of the brain. The MPFI has had a lot of exciting seminars presented by world-renowned researchers, and a close relationship with the Scripps Florida Institute and Florida Atlantic University on the same campus. To be able to feel “Max Planck spirits” in US is another advantage in our institute.

(Research Topics)
Cortical inhibitory interneurons have many subtypes, each of which has a unique role in various functions of neural circuits. Thus, elucidating mechanisms by which their diversity arises and functional role of subtypes in neural circuit operation is one of key missions in neuroscience. We have taken advantage of mouse genetics, molecular biology, virology, and imaging techniques to understand fate specification, neural circuit development, and a role in higher-order brain functions, of cortical interneuron subtypes. In this recruitment, we are interested in candidates who are eager to study one of these subjects.

Max Planck Florida Institute, Jupiter, Florida, USA.
