Drug Discovery for Advanced Prostate Cancer

A postdoctoral fellowship position for drug discovery is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nima Sharifi at the Cleveland Clinic in the Department of Cancer Biology.

Our laboratory and translational research program is focused on metabolic and molecular mechanisms of androgen synthesis and androgen receptor (AR) gain-of-function that lead to resistance to hormonal therapy.

A postdoctoral fellowship is available for drug discovery against a newly credentialed molecular target against prostate cancer. The candidate will take a leading role in the development of a compound screening assay for the identification and validation of a lead inhibitor compound against the molecular target, defining the mechanism of compound interaction with the target and optimizing the properties and potency of the lead compound.

The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, chemistry or molecular biology and has the appropriate expertise that can be applied to drug development. Outstanding verbal and communication skills are required.

We discovered the first example of a gain-of-function in a steroid-synthesizing enzyme that enables prostate cancer resistance to hormonal therapy (Chang, et al. Cell. 2013 154(5):1074-1084), that we have shown drives poor outcomes after hormonal therapy (Hearn, et al. Lancet Oncol. 2016 17(10):1435-44; Hearn, et al. JAMA Oncol. 2017 Oct 12), yet serves as a tumor vulnerability to alternative steroid ablation inhibitors (Almassi, et al. JAMA Oncol. 2017 Oct 12).
We recently also discovered that abiraterone works by conversion to a more active steroidal metabolite (Li, et al. Nature. 2015 523(7560):347-51), that metabolism is pharmacologically modifiable to optimize therapy (Li, et al. Nature. 2016 533(7604):547-51), and that this is a class effect of steroidal androgen synthesis inhibitors (Alyamani, et al. Cell Chemical Biology. 2017 24, 1-8, July 20).

Northwestern University Postdoctral Position

We have an opening for a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to study stem cell biology and tissue engineering. Applicants with experience in generation and differentiation of pluripotent stem cells are encouraged to apply, especially those with experience in kidney development or stem cell differentiation toward renal lineages. Application of these skills will be used to further develop established projects focusing on induced pluripotent stem cell differentiation. Enthusiastic candidates with a PhD or MD and expertise in stem cell biology, biomedical engineering, and/or large datasets describing genetic or metabolomic profiles are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates should have previous experience working with pluripotent stem cells. Candidates should be proficient in FACS analysis and/or basic molecular techniques (e.g., PCR, real-time PCR, Western blot, immunofluorescence, etc.). Preferred skills, though not required, include familiarity advanced molecular techniques (RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, metabolomics), proteomics, rodent surgical models, tissue engineering, polymer-based and biologically inspired nano- and micro-particles or scaffolds.

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Mobin Karimi in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Upstate Medical University. The successful candidate in collaboration with the mentor and his team will be responsible for designing and utilizing in vitro and in vivo methodologies to investigate the role of transcriptional regulator in alternative signal pathways to assess’ T cells cytotoxic function of hematological cancer model
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in biological sciences preferably with a strong immunology background. The position requires a minimum of 4-5 years of graduate research experience and a strong publication record. The candidate must be highly motivated and have extensive experience in cell signaling assays, flow cytometry and cell sorting, molecular biology, animal (mice) handling, experimental planning, and data interpretation. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as a team member are essential. Experience with the design, utilization, and evaluation of murine models of immunological diseases such, as transplantation is a plus. The position requires the ability to lead projects, and work co-operatively with others. Ideal candidates will have excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills. Other duties include supervision of other laboratory members, and participation in the writing of grants and manuscripts.

Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Associate positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Alberto Martin. The successful applicant will join a research team studying B cell biology and the DNA repair pathways that are associated with antibody diversification processes, mucosal immunology, and the association of gastrointestinal diseases to the gut microbiota. The candidates are expected to work in these or related fields of research.

The applicants will be employing technical skills in molecular biology and tissue culture, and will use a variety of in vivo models including unique knock-out mouse models. Previous training in bioinformatics is helpful. The successful candidate will be joining a young, dynamic environment within the Medical Sciences Building at the University of Toronto comprised of investigators studying cancer, cell biology, and mucosal immunology at both a molecular and in vivo levels. Welcome to Join the Yang Laboratory at the University of Calgary, Canada
The laboratory of Dr. Guang Yang is currently seeking outstanding young scientists to join our research group as GRADUATE STUDENTS or POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS. The research in the Yang lab focuses on neural stem cells and brain development. Our current research combines molecular genetics, live imaging and genome-wide approaches to understand how neural stem cells give rise to the correct numbers and types of neurons in the mammalian brain.
Using the mouse cortex as the model system, we hope to dissect the molecular mechanisms that control neural stem cell maintenance and neuronal fate specification in the developing brain. The fundamental knowledge gained from this work will lead to a better understanding of how perturbations relevant to neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders and schizophrenia, influence brain development and function.
The current research efforts in our laboratory are:
1) To dissect the mechanisms of translational control in neural stem cell maintenance and differentiation.
2) To understand how neural stem cells precisely generate diverse subtypes of excitatory neurons in the cortex during development.
3) To understand how risk factors for neurodevelopmental disorders interact to shape the development of the embryonic brain, and, ultimately, the structure and function of the mature brain.
The projects in our research group will involve utilizing various molecular, cellular, biochemical and imaging tools to study neural stem cell biology and brain development. Specifically, individuals will participate in studies that include, but are not limited to, dissecting translational repression complexes in neural stem cells and analyzing the role of RNA-binding proteins in brain development. Another potential avenue of research involves studying the mechanisms that mediate the effects of genetic and/or environmental risk factors for cognitive disorders.
For the postdoctoral position, a PhD degree in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, neurobiology, systems biology or a related field is preferred. Prior experience with transgenic mouse models, early embryo manipulation, stem cells, mouse development, and/or bioinformatics, and first author publications in these fields would be highly desirable. Must be self‐motivated, highly independent, and have excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills. Position available immediately, but starting date is negotiable.
Our laboratory (www.yanglaboratory.com) is based at the Departments of Medical Genetics, and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of Calgary, an internationally recognized research university in Canada and national research leader in brain and mental health. 非常にsupportiveな大ボスならびにCollaborator達(Drs. Moshe Arditi, Kenneth Bernstein, David Engman, Ravi Thadhani, and Ananth Karumanchi)に囲まれて、ラボを立ち上げました。非常に面白い数々のTransgenic miceや機材、試薬も揃っており、非常に恵まれた環境です。私達のグループには現在25人が働いており、私も含めて6人の日本人研究者が在籍しています。みなさん非常に協力的で環境の変化にも適応しやすいかと思います。

2. 豊富な腎生検のデータ(2006以降だけでも37,000件)や臨床データを用いて、臨床研究を行っています。全体の内、70%が自己腎(Native Kidney)で30%が移植腎(Transplant Kidney)です。Transplant Centerでは腎移植自体も活発に行われており、年間200例ほど行われています。これだけ大きなデータがあれば、腎生検/腎病理に関係することであれば、臨床上の些細な疑問も含めてすべてプロジェクトになり、比較的簡単に論文化(少なくとも年3-4本)されると思います。今年の6月から1人腎臓内科医が加わりますが、既に今年のASNに演題 (Thymoma-associated nephropathy: a report of 21 cases from a single institution)を提出しております。

Cedars-Sinai Medical Centerはビバリーヒルズにある、およそ900床の病院でそれに併設している研究所では活発にtranslational researchが行われております。ロサンゼルスは気候もよく、日本の食材も簡単に手に入り、また日本人も多いため、他の州に比べて非常に快適な生活が送れると思います。私が所属するRenal Pathologyは腎生検標本年間3600例を有し、私も含め5人のrenal pathologistsが所属するアメリカ西海岸最大の施設です。うち、移植腎生検も活発に行われており、年間700件以上あります。
また、2017年11月よりMGHのNephrologyのトップであったDr. Ravi ThadhaniとBeth Israel HospitalのDr. Ananth Karumanchi(両者ともHarvardのProfessor)がCedars-Sinaiに移ってきており、共同研究を行っています。腎臓研究はますます活発になっていくと思います。
